Worksmart recently completed a project of works for Urquhart’s Opticians in Ayr. The optometry business was looking to open a flagship store in Ayr to further enhance the brand within South Ayrshire. The grade two listed townhouse on the well-renowned Miller Road was previously an office space and required a considerable upgrade/remodel to ensure that it was fit for purpose. Working closely with our friends at Thomson Hunter Architects, the project began in the summer of 2021 and initially involved a full strip out of the entire building, down to the brick work in places.
After some significant reconfiguration of the building to create a number of consultation rooms, we then moved our focus onto the specially designed customer experience/shop floor area. The facility was fitted with specially designed display cabinets for the glasses and storage areas for the stock. A modern and bright reception area was created for customers to wait on their appointments as well as a meeting room for staff. Employee and customer welfare was considered at every stage of the refurbishment/fit-out process.
Worksmart worked closely with a local furniture supplier who provided specially designed pieces for the practice including seating for customers as well as office chairs and desks for consultation rooms. At Worksmart, we work with suppliers who utilise circular economy solutions and make sure their products are made of sustainable materials. Sustainability & Renewables are particularly important subjects at the moment as businesses are being encouraged to consider their environmental impact. It’s fantastic to see local businesses leading the way in reducing climate change.
Urquhart’s opticians opened the practice in September 2021, much to the delight of their staff and customers. Worksmart were delighted to be working so closely with Peter Telfer, Alistair Duff and the rest of the team at Urquhart’s assisting them to expand their property portfolio. We hope that this new practice will solidify the brand within the local community and will increase footfall after what has been a particularly challenging couple of years.
